Residents evacuated at Brookdale Senior Living in Orland Park during minor weekend fire

A fire at Brookdale Senior Living in Orland Park Sunday morning left one person injured and led to a precautionary evacuation of residents while crews worked to put out the fire, officials said.

The Orland Fire Protection District responded to the Brookdale Senior Assisted Living home, 16051 La Grange Road, at 7:41 a.m. Sunday, said spokesman Ray Hanania. An automatic alarm went off in the facility and the fire was found in one room on the second floor of the three-story building, he said.

Fire crews located the resident and found a chair on fire in the living room, Hanania said. The resident was safely evacuated from the unit, he said.

The resident living in the unit was taken as a precaution to Silver Cross Hospital, Hanania said. The resident has since returned to the facility, said spokeswoman Jackie Dickson.

The cause is under investigation, Hanania and Dickson said.

The resident living in the unit where the fire was reported was able to stay in another unit, Dickson said, so no one was displaced.

“We are grateful to firefighters who responded quickly to assist our community as the safety and well-being of our residents is our top priority,” Dickson said.
