Verizon and T-Mobile customers in Cumberland County and Fayetteville experienced disruptions to their cellular and Internet services Wednesday, something that the service providers said they were working quickly to address.

"We are aware some customers in your service area may be experiencing issues and our network teams are looking into this," said a Verizon customer service representative. "In the meantime, we recommend connecting to a secure Wi-Fi connection, and utilizing Wi-Fi calling to stay connected."

The representative said she had not been given details on the cause of the outage.

Residents took to social media to report the disruptions Wednesday afternoon.

"Anyone else in #faync experiencing outages on their Verizon phones?" one resident Tweeted, garnering at least eight replies mentioning similar issues.

"We expect service to be back to 100% shortly," said a T-Mobile customer service representative. "While we do not have additional details at this time, we're working to get things up and running ASAP."

Downdetector, a website that collects anonymous reports of service outages, noted reported outages in Fayetteville for T-Mobile, Verizon and Metronet Wednesday evening.

The outages were first reported about 4:30 p.m. and by 6 p.m. appeared to have been resolved.
