Residents' input encouraged for Willoughby Hills' Rock N Roll Day

May 16—Willoughby Hills is continuing to look to its residents for more input to finalize Rock N Roll Day, the city's festival due to take place this summer.

Rock N Roll Day is currently scheduled Aug. 13, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The next meeting is planned for May 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Willoughby Hills Community Center, located at 35400 Chardon Road. The city is encouraging those who are interested in getting involved with Rock N Roll Day to plan to come to the meeting.

The city recently reviewed the draft program of events, all of which will be related to the theme of rock and roll, according to Gloria Majeski, executive assistant to Willoughby Hills Mayor Andy Gardner.

The bands Sumrada and Ricky N the Rockets are booked to perform on stage in tents on the ball fields at Roemisch Fields Park, located across from City Hall and next to the Community Center. There will also be a tent for attendees to sit, enjoy music and food.

The gazebo will be occupied for the day by a DJ and emcee for the event, who will start at 10 a.m. with a special tribute to the late Cleveland rock and roll icon Michael Stanley.

"We talked about the hope to bring the late musician's family to say a few words before the dedication of a huge memorabilia showcase that will be presented, which will remain in the Community Center to honor his memory for years to come," Majeski previously told The News-Herald.

David Schwensen, author of "The Beatles in Cleveland," will be doing a special program at 5 p.m., which will feature footage of the Beatles concert that took place Aug. 14, 1966 at Municipal Stadium.

There are plans to sell tickets for this event and possibly in a package with other items since there is only a capacity of 150 in the O'Ryan Room at the Community Center for this program. Business sponsorships and the hope to purchase prizes for the kids' games have also been discussed.
