Residents Reminded To Watch Out For Holiday Scams: New London PD

It may be the season of giving, however it is also the season of scamming, according to New London police.

NEW LONDON, CT — New London police remind residents that it may be the season of giving, however it is also the season of scamming. According to police, a recent scam has been going around in which residents are told their computer is at risk of compromise.

"Don’t trust these people and do not provide access to your computers," police said on Facebook.

Another holiday scam to watch out for involves residents receiving bogus tracking emails referring to online purchases and mailed packages. (To sign up for New London breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

"This is not to say there aren’t legitimate emails tracking packages, but it’s a great time to sneak in good-looking fakes," police said.

Police said the scam emails contain tracking links that release a virus.

"Bottom Line – unless you know that the order and tracking number are legit, don’t click on anything," police said. "Don’t even cursor over the link. Delete the email."
