Residents took cover when they heard gunshots in their Mount Holly neighborhood

Two men were found shot in a vehicle Thursday near the intersection of Dodge Street and Piedmont Avenue in Mount Holly.

The Mount Holly Police Department said in a press release Friday morning that 911 calls about the shooting started coming in just past 8 p.m. Thursday.

Residents say the police responded quickly, however, according to officials, Jayden Dae’Shun Munson, 19, and Jaylan Marray Jackson, 19, both of Concord, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Many residents of the neighborhood say they took cover in their bathrooms after hearing what they first believed to be the sound of firecrackers.

Police told The Gazette's news partner, WSOC, that the two men were shot in the vehicle on Dodge Street before the car rolled downhill onto Piedmont Avenue, crashing into a parked vehicle near the intersection of Piedmont Avenue and Highland Street.

In a 911 call to the Mount Holly Police Department, a Dodge Street resident reported seeing three individuals fleeing the scene toward Veterans Park.

The caller said she did not see any identifying characteristics, but that she heard male voices.

As of Friday afternoon, police were still looking for suspects and have not identified a motive, according to Mount Holly officials.

James Currence, a long-time resident of the neighborhood said the shooting was shocking to many in the neighborhood.

“Nothing ever happened around here like that before, and I’ve lived here 50 years,” Currence said.
