Restaurant for throuples opens for Valentine’s Day as 28% of Brits would consider polyamory
The world's first restaurant designed for throuples is opening its doors for Valentine's Day.
Every year restaurants on February 14 are jam-packed with tables of twosomes, but times have changed and the idea that love should be limited to duos is outdated - for some, at least.
That's why, in a bid to show that all kinds of romantic relationships are acceptable, throuples can now book a table at a restaurant in Shoreditch, London to celebrate the most romantic day of the year.
Hosted by LELO, the sexual wellness brand, and aptly named ‘THROUPLE’ this first-of-its-kind polyamorous eatery will celebrate polyamory and break down the taboos surrounding non-monogamous love.
Guests will be able to enjoy a free romantic three-course meal and drinks and dine among other throuples, so they can enjoy a romantic night out with their significant others without having to worry about people questioning the additional seat or seats.
Because while it is designed for throuples, the unique restaurant welcomes all polyamorous people – whether they’re in a four-way or even five-way relationship.
The launch of the restaurant experience follows a recent survey by the brand highlighting that 28% of Brits would consider entering a polyamorous relationship.

Meanwhile 38% of 18-24-year-olds say the idea of a polyamorous relationship would tick their intimacy needs.
However, just 0.5% of people define their relationship status as non-monogamous – perhaps due to the taboo surrounding it.
LELO say they are "encouraging people to embrace the freedom of being able to choose a relationship style that works for them and not feel restricted by the social norm of monogamy.
"The brand is opening Throuple to create a safe space for people in polyamorous relationships, so they can enjoy a romantic night out with their significant others without having to worry about people questioning the additional seat or seats."

Sex and relationship expert Kate Moyle says: "Narratives, conversations, information and education are changing away from a 'one-size fits all' model of sex and relationships to a more inclusive and curious one.
"We are seeing this reflected in the statistics showing that people are being more explorative and open to trying ethical non-monogamy relationship models.
"The sexual wellness movement is encouraging people to find what’s right for them, which may lie outside of the relationship model that they previously felt that they had to subscribe to.
"As we read, learn, listen, talk and educate more and integrate and normalise ideas about sex and relationships taking different shapes into our lives, then we gradually move towards a place of greater acceptance."

What is a polyamorous throuple?
Urban Dictionary defines a throuple as a ‘threelationship’, otherwise known as a relationship with three partners.
Polyamory is defined as “the state or practice of having more than one open romantic relationship at a time.”
Unsurprisingly, people sometimes confuse throuple with threesome, but a throuple is a balanced, consensual, and committed relationship between three partners, rather than sex between three people.
Thanks to the recent increase in visibility of the sexual spectrum, the throuple is gaining more and more recognition, as are other forms of polyamorous relationships.
Willow Smith recently spoke out about her curiosity for having an unconventional romantic relationship involving multiple people.
Speaking on Facebook Watch series, Red Table Talk, the daughter of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith, said she had researched polyamorous relationships after coming across a couple who followed this lifestyle on Instagram.
She said she would be happy to be in a “throuple” relationship with “one man and one woman”.
Some 4.2% of the UK’s young people (aged between 16 and 24 years old) identify as lesbian, gay or bisexual, according to data from the Office of National Statistics. This is a higher proportion than any other age group.
Meanwhile, one study from healthcare company euroClinix found nearly a fifth of Brits would be open to polyamory.
