Restaurant inspections: Here's how Boat n' Net, Railroad Brewing and others scored

Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health officials found dead roaches, loose pills, rotten produce, improperly stored meat and more health violations at local restaurants in August.

Out of 231 businesses inspected, 19 scored below a 90 and 17 received perfect scores.

Here are the best and worst scores from August 2022.

Jia Jia Noodle, 5714 McArdle Road, Corpus Christi

The restaurant was inspected on Aug. 10 and received an 86. Inspectors found dirty soda nozzles and dispensers, food stored less than 6 inches from the ground, dirty coolers and a dirty microwave, uncovered ready-to-eat foods, employees wearing jewelry and not washing hands in the handwashing sink.

The restaurant was last inspected Nov. 23, 2021, and received a 96.

Taqueria Express and Seafood, 4346 Ayers St., Corpus Christi

The restaurant was inspected on Aug. 10 and received an 87. Inspectors found seasonings uncovered when not in use, food and drinks stored on the floor, unlabeled food in coolers and freezers, flies, employees wearing jewelry and not using hair nets or beard guards, improperly stored sanitizing clothes and dirty vents.

The restaurant was last inspected on May 20, 2021, and received a 96.

Norma'z Fruits Delights, 4737 Kostoryz Road, Corpus Christi

The restaurant was inspected on Aug. 11 and received a 77. Inspectors found eggs stored at the wrong temperature, food stored in the dishwashing sink, pills stored openly on the counter, unlabeled food items, gnats, improperly stored sanitizing cloths and utensils, broken lights and walk-in door, dirty vents and floors, and employees without food handlers cards.

The restaurant was last inspected on March 2 and received an 88.

Palace, 5850 Everhart Road, Corpus Christi

The restaurant was inspected on Aug. 12 and received an 83. Inspectors found a dirty ice machine, beer stored on ground, drinks stored in ice, dirty soda nozzle holders, chemicals near food and shakers/cups, unlabeled food, dirty grills above stove, gnats, and employees smoking inside and not wearing beard guards.

The restaurant was last inspected on Dec. 22, 2021, and received a 94.

AMC Theatres Corpus 16, 5218 Silverberry Drive, Corpus Christi

The theater was inspected on Aug. 17 and received a 89. Inspectors found gnats and dead roaches inside the ceiling tiles, dirty soda dispenser, improperly stored chemicals, trash near napkin and butter dispensers, broken lights and dirty vents, and dirty floors and trash upstairs.

The theater was last inspected on Nov. 4, 2021, and received a 98.

Price's Chef, 1800 S. Alameda St., Corpus Christi

The restaurant was inspected on Aug. 17 and received an 87. Inspectors found eggs not stored in cooler when not in use, employees without food handlers cards, unlabeled and undated products, no thermometers in coolers or freezers, employees without hair nets and beard guards, food stored on the floor, dirty walk-in coolers and microwave, and grease on floor and walls near grills.

The restaurant was last inspected on March 3, 2021, and received an 81.

Staples Street Meat Market, 7626 S. Staples St., Corpus Christi

The meat market was inspected on Aug. 17 and received an 85. Inspectors found pork and bacon-wrapped goods were not held at the proper temperature of 41 degrees, boxes of meat were stored less than six inches from the floor inside the freezer and walk-in coolers, chemical containers were stored near lids and freezer paper, employees without beard guards, improperly stored sanitizing cloths, and unlabeled food containers. The walk-in cooler floor, rack, walls and equipment needed cleaning. The meat racks inside the display refrigerators, area where paper good and meat wrap are stored and area between meat display and boards needed cleaning.

The store was last inspected on Sept. 29, 2021, and received an 86.

Railroad Brewing Co, 1214 N. Chaparral St., Corpus Christi

The restaurant was inspected on Aug. 19 and received an 89. Inspectors found a dirty ice maker, holes in ceiling above the food prep area, dirty shelf racks in cooling units and dirty air conditioning vents above food prep areas.

The restaurant was last inspected on Sept. 17, 2021, and received a 92.

The Point, 601 N. Chaparral St., Corpus Christi

The restaurant was inspected on Aug. 19 and received an 87. Inspectors found the cooler was not at the proper temperature, food and drinks were stored on the floor, dirty drink nozzles, dirty grills above grill, dirty microwave, unlabeled food items, improperly stored utensils and equipment, and missing ceiling tiles.

The restaurant was last inspected on March 17 and received a 97.

Clemente Jack, 4210 Green Grove Drive, Corpus Christi

The restaurant was inspected on Aug. 20 and received an 87. Inspectors found no food managers on site, no food handlers permits on site, unlabeled and undated food products, no thermometers in refrigerators and freezers, a dirty microwave, no hot water and onions stored on floor.

The restaurant was last inspected on Oct. 16, 2021, and received a 97.

Little Caesars, 3301 Baldwin Road, Corpus Christi

The restaurant was inspected on Aug. 23 and received an 87. Inspectors found dirty ceiling vents above the food prep area, dirty shelf racks in the walk-in cooler, no food handlers permits or valid health permit, no hand towels in the restroom, no hair restraints for employees and dirty vent hood filters.

The restaurant was last inspected on Dec. 6, 2021, and received an 87.

Taqueria La Escondida, 3302 Leopard St., Corpus Christi

The restaurant was inspected on Aug. 23 and received an 86. Inspectors found uncovered food in the refrigerator, food stored on floor, unlabeled food items, a dirty microwave, employees wearing jewelry and without beard guards, improperly stored sanitizing cloths and utensils, and broken ceiling tiles.

The restaurant was last inspected on Sept. 23, 2021, and received an 81.

Z-Counter, 1220 Airline Road, Corpus Christi

The restaurant was inspected on Aug. 23 and received an 88. Inspectors found cooked chicken was not cooled properly, food stored on the floor and on top of uncovered food, flies, dirty air vents, improperly stored sanitizing cloths, no thermometer in walk-in cooler and employees without hair coverings.

The restaurant was last inspected on Jan. 4 and received a 94.

Asian Garden, 10501 Leopard St., Corpus Christi

The restaurant was inspected on Aug. 24 and received an 88. Inspectors found flies, raw meat stored above noodles and precooked food, dish soap stored next to shrimp being thawed out, shrimp being thawed in standing water, improperly stored sanitizing cloths, employees without hair restraints and beard guards, and no paper towels for the handwashing sink.

La Playa Mexican Cafe, 7118 S. Padre Island Drive, Corpus Christi

The restaurant was inspected on Aug. 24 and received an 89. Inspectors found there was no food manager or food handlers permits on site, the ice bin was dirty, stored food was uncovered and unlabeled, water was pooling in the kitchen corner and ceiling tiles needed replacement.

The restaurant was last inspected on July 30, 2021, and received an 86.

The Wilson, 5118 S. Staples St., Corpus Christi

The restaurant was inspected on Aug. 25 and received an 86. Inspectors found beans stored at the wrong temperature, raw meat stored above noodles and seafood, improperly stored sanitizing cloths, souffle cups used to dispense sauces, dirty equipment, dirty ice machine, and the handwashing sink used improperly.

The restaurant was last inspected on Nov. 22, 2021, and received a 95.

Los Altos Del Jalisco, 6301 IH-37, Corpus Christi

The restaurant was inspected on Aug. 30 and received an 88. Inspectors found rotten produce on storage shelves, dirty grill shelves in walk-in cooler, a hole in the back door, residue build up on the walk-in cooler door, and employees without valid food managers cards or food handlers permits.

The restaurant was last inspected on Jan. 7 and received a 90.

Boat n' Net, 4804 Kostoryz Road, Corpus Christi

The restaurant was inspected on Aug. 31 and received an 83. Inspectors found there was no certified food manager on site, employees without food handlers permits, dirty drink dispensers, incorrectly stored ice scoop, dirty walk-in cooler, flies, employees wearing jewelry, improperly stored sanitizing cloths, grease buckets stored on grease barrel outside, and a broken back door threshold.

The restaurant was last inspected on July 25 and received a 76.

Boat n' Net, 5657 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi

The restaurant was inspected on Aug. 31 and received a 67. Inspectors found dirty ceiling vents above the food prep area, dirty countertops, no food manager on site, employees without gloves, toxic items stored near food prep, employees without food handlers permits, undated prepared foods and flies. There were holes in the ceiling, excess trash, bad ventilation, corroded shelves in the reach-in cooler, holes in the back door, dirty ceiling areas and no thermometers in the cooling units.

The restaurant was last inspected on Sept. 7, 2021, and received a 79.
