The Food Establishment Inspection Report is a weekly report that appears Sundays. Information is taken from reports provided by the Environmental Health Department, and individual reports can be viewed at its website, http://amarillo.gov/departments/community-services/environmental-health/foodinspections. A numerical grading system is now being used, with a score of 100 points being equivalent to zero demerits.

  • 100 points – No major violation at the time of inspection

  • 85 points – Considered an average score

  • 70 points or below – Requires re-inspection within 24 hours

  • COS – Corrected on site during inspection

These points correspond to the following letter grades:

  • A – 90 to 100

  • B – 80 to 89

  • C – 70 to 79

  • F – 69 and below

(A/97) Amarillo National Bank-Executive Dining Room, 500 S. Taylor St. Dust on ceiling between lighting and ceiling panels; light bulbs burned out in two reach-in coolers; visible build-up at air gap under three-compartment sink. Correct by 06/07/2024.

(A/91) Amigos #524 Deli/Bakery, 3300 E. I-40. Employees did not wash hands before changing/putting on new gloves; cut lettuce and deli meats with expired date marks; several scoops in bakery with handles buried in flour/sugar (repeat violation). COS. Bakery walk-in freezer dripping frozen condensate onto boxes (repeat violation); inside of ice machine dirty (repeat violation); dust accumulating on ceiling vents above food prep surfaces (repeat violation). Correct by 01/11/2024. Fan in walk-in cooler in bakery needs to be cleaned. Correct by 03/11/2024.

(A/96) Arbys, 2020 Ross Osage Drive. No test strips for sanitizer; most recent grease trap ticket must be available on site to view. Correct by 12/21. Floor in walk-in freezer beginning to separate; frozen condensation accumulating around condenser line in walk-in freezer; food handler certification needed and establishment must maintain certificates on premises. Correct by 03/11/2024.

(A/90) Aspen Creek Grill, 4110 W. I-40. Several plates and utensils on cook line visibly dirty with food; minced garlic past expiration date; several items stored uncovered in coolers and in dry stock area. COS. Condensate pooling inside reach-in portion of line cooler with food sitting on top of water; all items used as a scoop must have handles; single-use carton boat inside drawer of pasta cooler; Swai fish cannot be labeled as catfish; food debris inside coolers in cook line; tape and cardboard on vent hood above fryers must be removed. Correct by 03/07/2024.

(A/90) Blue Sky Asian Market, 5631 E. Amarillo Blvd. Cut lettuce sitting at room temperature. COS. Air gap in personal kitchen clogged and overflowing. Correct by 12/14. Grease trap in personal kitchen needs to be serviced. Correct by 12/20. Evidence of pests throughout establishment. Correct by 12/27. Employee took store product into personal kitchen to prep; slicer in room with a shower. Correct by 03/10/2024.

(A/94) Comfort Inn & Suites, 2101 E. I-40. No Certified Food Manager; consumer advisory needed reminding guests to use clean tableware upon each return to the buffet; food allergy notice must be posted in breakfast area. Correct by 12/18. Acoustic ceiling tiles above mop sink must be replaced or sealed; food handler certification needed and establishment must maintain certificates on premises. Correct by 01/08/2024. Sign needed in restroom reminding employees to wash hands before returning to work. Correct by 03/06/2024.

(A/92) El Bracero Mexican Restaurant, 2028 Paramount Blvd. Raw chicken breast stored above uncovered cooked beans on shelf in walk-in cooler; food uncovered in several coolers; single-use cup stored in salsa container. COS. Food debris on knife magnet and shelves in walk-in cooler; chip crumbs from previous days on top side of holder on chip warmer; vinyl covering peeling off exposing raw wood on shelves above prep table near dish area; grease and dust build-up on vent hood. Correct by 04/10.

(A/94) Golden Corral #533, 7220 W. I-40. Food debris on clean dishes on rack. COS. Uncovered pizza in walk-in cooler; items stacked wet; missing tiles throughout kitchen; excessive standing water around drain in dishwashing station. Correct by 03/06/2024.

(A/97) Gordito’s Smokehouse, 2112 S. Grand St. No Certified Food Manager certificate; permit number must be posted on each side of mobile in at least three inch lettering. Correct by 12/18.

(A/95) Heritage Convalescent Center, 1009 Clyde St. Box of raw ground beef stored above ready to eat foods. COS. Heavy build-up of dirt and dust on fans in walk-in cooler (repeat violation); raw wood in chemical closet needs to be sealed. Correct by 03/10/2024.

(A/99) Kids Café Kitchen, 2199 S.E. 8th Ave. One wall in kitchen needs to be repaired. Correct by 12/21. Ceiling tiles in employee bathrooms must be smooth, durable, non-absorbent and easily cleanable. Correct by 06/06/2024.

(A/93) Little Caesars Pizza, 1401 E. Amarillo Blvd. #A. Cheese shakers and a bottle of BBQ sauce sitting at room temperature; pitcher of water stored in hand sink; dishes stacked wet. COS. Cutting board on cheese make table heavily discolored; heavy dust build-up on blowers in cooler and vents throughout establishment; chest freezer with exposed insulation needs to be repaired. Correct by 03/10/2024.

(A/96) North Heights, 607 N. Hughes St. Mold and slime on front inside of ice machine (repeat violation). COS. Dust on fans in reach-in coolers; large amounts of hard water build-up on sides of ice machine. Correct by 03/07/2024.

(A/93) Pork N Things BBQ, 10816 S.E. 3rd Ave. Food in refrigerators without date marks. COS. No hot water in employee restroom; most recent grease trap invoice must be available on site to view. Correct by 12/21. Bulk food items without labels; smokehouse has exposed walls and ceiling (repeat violation). Correct by 03/06/2024.

(A/96) Toot ‘n Totum #18, 3101 Plains Blvd. Commercially packaged sandwiches must be date marked. Correct by 12/20. Cardboard should not be used for shelves in walk-in cooler. Correct by 03/10/2024. Covered trash can needed in women’s restroom. Correct by 12/11/2024.

(B/83) Twins Market, 707 E. Amarillo Blvd. Noodles in walk-in cooler labeled to keep frozen (repeat violation); multiple items with expired dates; multiple dented cans on shelves for sale. COS. An order of juice/milk was delivered with a date of 2022 and put on shelf for sale to consumers; multiple bags of produce without labels. Correct by 12/18. Storage closet must be organized and cleaned and all unused or unnecessary items removed (repeat violation); mice droppings in storage room (repeat violation); cooler behind blue counter being used by employees needs to be labeled “personal use only” (repeat violation); all food items in storage closet stored on the ground; packages of tofu in walk-in cooler covered in mold; spoons in powder with handles touching product (repeat violation).
