Two years after announcing plans to move forward with its U.S. expansion, a fresh-Mex restaurant has opened its second location in the capital.

Surcheros is opening its latest location on Tuesday in the bustling Ocala Corners shopping center (800 Ocala Road, Suite 100), home to a Publix Super Market, Tropical Smoothie Cafe, Panera Bread and more.

Its other Tallahassee location is at 1817 Thomasville Road, in the shopping center anchored by Whole Foods.

Swag, free entree and queso cards will be given out and the first 100 guests in line will also receive free burritos for a year.

The chain has nearly 30 locations; the Tallahassee team is looking to add additional locations in cities like Panama City, Gainesville or Ocala.

The restaurant offers Mexican-inspired dishes including; tacos, grilled burritos, nachos, quesadillas, salads and burrito bowls, each of which can be paired with over 15 different toppings, sides, homemade sauces and dressings.

The restaurant also offers weekly specials for entrees like its grilled chicken salad, carnitas burritos and more.

Amy Cooksey, a partner in the Tallahassee Surcheros, said that there was a need for another location: "We just started to have more and more college kids. Every day we would see younger and younger groups of kids coming in."

The new Tallahassee location touts approximately 2,400 square foot, with a large seating area, salsa bar, and ordering line where guests can walk through to customize their orders.

Cooksey believes the "fresh, never frozen" ingredients will attract guests, as well as the customization of items like its prized burrito bowls with an option to grill toppings as well.
