A new restaurant will open in the former Wild Wing spot at Columbia’s Village at Sandhill

So long, wings. Hello, hot pot.

A new restaurant with Asian flavors is coming to the Village at Sandhill shopping district in northeast Columbia. KPot Korean BBQ and Hot Pot will set up shop at 480-2 Town Center Place in the village, according to a “coming soon” listing on the company’s website.

The KPot location will be opening in the spot that was long occupied by Wild Wing Cafe. That restaurant closed last July. The vast Village at Sandhill shopping center has ebbed and flowed through the years, but has proved resilient. As noted in a story in The State earlier this year, about four out of every five storefronts there are leased.

The website listing does not include a targeted opening date for the new Sandhill restaurant.

KPot currently has restaurants in several states, including Florida, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Texas and Pennsylvania, with locations planned in a host of other states.

According to the menu on KPot’s website, hot pot is an Asian cooking method prepared with a simmering pot of soup stock at the customer’s table and includes a host of East Asian ingredients.

“While the hot pot is kept simmering, ingredients are placed in the pot and are cooked at the table, similar to fondue,” the KPot site says. “Typical hot pot dishes include thinly sliced meat, leaf vegetables, mushrooms, wontons, egg dumplings, tofu and seafood. The cooked food is usually eaten with a dipping sauce.”

The Post and Courier first reported the KPot plans for Village at Sandhill.

The northeast Columbia spot is not the only KPot location coming to the Midlands. The company also is developing a restaurant at 280 Harbison Blvd., not far from the Columbiana Centre mall. That storefront is the former location of a Chili’s restaurant.

A note on KPot’s website said the company is coming soon to 480-2 Town Center Place in Columbia’s Village at Sandhill.
