Several restaurants in Aberdeen have undergone changes recently.

Here is the latest news about some of the town's favorite food joints.

Dulces set to reopen

Dulces Hispanic Grocery (and kitchen) will be reopening after its final inspection, said owner Jose Salas. He hopes that will be by the end of the week.

Dulces has been closed since the end of May when a fire started in the kitchen area and spread through the adjoining wall. The building was subject to smoke and heat damage, though Salas said at the time of the fire that it would be repairable.

In addition to all new kitchen equipment, Dulces has an all new look from the outside. The business has now been painted red. The building was previously brown.

Dulces, 1111 Sixth Ave. S.W., opened in May 2019 as a Hispanic grocery. The kitchen opened in 2020 and provides authentic Mexican food. The business also serves as a gathering spot for the local Hispanic population, which often shops, eats and visits at Dulces.

Roma undergoes repairs

Roma Ristorante Italiano, 104 S. Main St., has reopened after being closed since the end of June. The restaurant was closed for construction, but opened back up on August 5.

Scotty's building purchased

Scotty's Drive in Bar and Grill, 719 N. Main St., has been permanently closed, said owner Stacy Gossman. The closing was mainly caused by staffing issues, especially since Gossman is also the owner of Big Fella's at 5759 U.S. Highway 12 E.

Gossman simply did not have enough staff members to keep both locations open, he said. The restaurants are also dealing with some supply chain issues. For now, Big Fella's is open from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, although Gossman said he hopes to soon be open on Wednesdays.

The Scotty's building has been sold to a management company, although no decision has been made as to what the building will be, said Chad Lyke, who is involved in the process.

Editor's note: this story has been corrected to clarify that a property management company purchased the Scotty's building.
