A new restaurant specializing in poke and ramen will open in Wichita this summer

Ramen and poke are both getting more popular in Wichita by the day. And soon, the city will have a new restaurant that specializes in both.

Jimmy Liu, who is part of the family that owns Dragon City Chinese Restaurant at 3008 W. Central, is now working on remodeling the old Bai Wei Asian Diner space at 1845 S. Rock Road, where the Liu family will soon open a new poke and ramen restaurant called Oishi. It’s in the same strip center near the intersection of Pawnee and Rock Road that has Teriyaki House.

The family hopes to have the place open sometime in June or July, said Liu, who on Tuesday was busy working in the dining room. The place has been gutted and has all-new everything, including dry wall and flooring. The family hasn’t yet gotten to the exterior of the restaurant, which still has a torn red awning flapping in the wind.

Liu said that Oishi, which will be a sit-down restaurant, will be open for lunch and dinner.

Bai Wei Asian Diner operated in the space for about 14 years but closed around two months ago, Liu said.

Stay tuned for more information about Oishi as opening day gets closer.
