Restaurant temporarily closed after 111 rodent droppings found in March restaurant inspections
March was a lucky month for 184 eateries across Escambia and Santa Rosa counties who passed their visit from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. However, 24 were not as successful. One restaurant had to close their doors temporarily, another received an administrative complaint and six restaurants topped 10 violations. There was plenty of good news though, as 83 restaurants received a perfect score.

One business temporarily closes
Island Epicurean Food Co., 13700 Perdido Key Drive, Building C, Unit 140
Following a March 6 inspection, Island Epicurean Food Company was temporarily closed due to a large amount of rodent activity. The inspector observed about 111 rodent droppings in the restaurant, the majority underneath dry storage shelving in the kitchen.
Other lower priority violations included ceiling tiles having an accumulation of food debris, the handwash sink not being always accessible for employee use and no proof present of required employee training.
The restaurant was given a time extension for the employee training, but a follow-up inspection is still required.

One receives an administrative complaint
Days Inn & Suites Breakfast Bar, 8700 Navarre Parkway
Following a March 6 inspection, Days Inn & Suites received an administrative complaint for an expired food manager certification. A follow-up inspection is still required.
Six restaurants cited for more than 10 offenses
Miyako Gulf Breeze, 1385 Shoreline Drive
Following a March 16 inspection, Miyako received 19 violations due to five high priority violations. Some of these offences include flying insect repellant being improperly stored, sushi rice being stored at an improper temperature and a pesticide-emitting strip in the food prep area. A follow-up inspection is still required.
Wasabi House, 4797 U.S. Highway 90, Pace
Following a March 21 inspection, Wasabi House received 11 violations, three of them being high priority. Some of the high priority offenses included dented cans of oyster sauce and chicken being stored at an improper temperature The restaurant complied with a call back inspection the same day.
Main Moon Chinese Restaurant, 5444 Dogwood Drive
Following a March 7 inspection, Main Moon Chinse Restaurant received 11 violations. The only high priority violation being that chicken was being stored at an improper temperature. A follow-up inspection is still required.
Samurai Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi, 8780 Navarre Parkway
Following a March 6 inspection, Samurai received 11 violations, one of them being a high priority. The sole high priority offense was chicken being stored at an improper temperature. The inspection met standards and a follow-up inspection is not required.
Mr. Teriyaki, 41 S. Navy Blvd.
Following a March 9 inspection, Mr. Teriyaki received 17 violations, four of them high priority. Some of the offences included prepping food with bare hands, food not being stored at improper temperatures. The inspection met standards and no follow-up inspection is not required.
The Ruby Slipper Café, 509 S. Palafox St.
Following a March 24 inspection, Ruby Slipper received 10 violations, two of them high priority. These top offenses included a contaminated surface and missing written procedures for food storage. A follow-up inspection is still required.
