Restaurant of the Week: Grand Marais Tavern
GRAND MARAIS, Mich. (WJMN) – If you’re ever lost around Grand Marais, there’s a restaurant where no one is a stranger!
The Grand Marais Tavern is a place where you can get pizza, burgers, fish, and more. Their best selling menu item is their GMT pizza.
“Our number one seller is the GMT which pretty much has everything under the sun on it,” said Jessica Flynn, one of the Managing Partners of the Grand Marais Tavern. “I would say the only thing I don’t think it doesn’t have on it is pineapple, but other than that it’s you know, it’s the portions of the toppings versus the crust and the extra little sauce that they put on it at the end to finish it off. The melted cheese that when you pull it goes with the pizza slice. It’s yummy!”
Along with their normal menu items that are served throughout the year, they also serve unique weekly specials like burritos, quesadillas, chicken phillies, and more.
However, the food and the drinks aren’t the only things that keep people coming back for more.
“Oh, I think the people, the town and the community that come in here, from the person that sits at the end of the bar to the person that’s serving you, it’s a community,” said Flynn. “Everybody knows everybody. So I think that’s what makes it special here. We remember the people that come from downstate to come up to visit from snowmobiling or to have fun in the summer on the beach. Everyone is a family member or friend. There’s no strangers here.”
