From restaurants to health and fitness, 46 women-owned businesses to support in Cincinnati

March is Women's History Month, the annual monthlong celebration of the role women have had in American history.

In 1980, President Jimmy Carter issued the first proclamation to declare the week of March 8, 1980, as National Women's History Week. The same year, Congress members from both the House of Representatives and the Senate co-sponsored a Congressional Resolution for National Women's History Week 1981.

Fourteen states had declared March as Women's History Month by 1986, and Congress eventually declared every March to be Women's History Month in 1987.

Each year, the president issues an annual proclamation declaring March to be Women's History Month. According to the Library of Congress, the month is meant to "celebrate the contributions women have made to the United States and recognize the specific achievements women have made over the course of American history in a variety of fields."

If you're looking for a way to support local women-owned businesses this month (and every month), we've rounded up some reader-recommended restaurants, shops and other businesses in Greater Cincinnati to help you get started.
