While many in Lane County are able to have a traditional get-together on Christmas Day with homecooked food, a number of local restaurants in Eugene and Springfield will be open on the holiday to serve those looking to eat out.

Bob Chiou, owner of the Happy Chef Chinese restaurant in Eugene, said he thinks these restaurants also fill an important niche for those who are spending the holiday by themselves and can't travel to visit family and friends elsewhere.

"It's good to give people some convenience, since everywhere is closed," Chiou said. "For single people, they have so many reasons they cannot go home."
