Restaurants, Stores Open New Year’s Eve, Day In Sussex County

SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ — A new year is just around the corner in Sussex County towns, like Hopatcong and Sparta. Many will mark the end of 2021 by heading to a party, watching the ball drop and ringing in 2022 with friends.

COVID isn’t sidelining some festivities on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day 2022, though many businesses are operating on modified schedules, having take out only or plan to stay closed.

New Year’s Day is often a day for rest and recovery. While some may spend the day reading, watching movies with family or getting a head start on those resolutions, others may opt to head out for a good meal and a day of shopping.

Here are just a few of the restaurants in the area that are open and taking reservations for New Year’s Eve and what they offer that night:

St. Moritz, 9 White Deer Plaza, Sparta. There are seatings from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., with music, a special menu and champagne toast planned at midnight. Visit www.stmoritzgrill.com or call 973-729-5677.


Krogh's, 23 White Deer Plaza, Sparta, is hosting an event with no cover charge, from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Free champagne toast and Achilles OG spinning tunes for 21 and up.

Pavinci Italian Grill, at 453 River Styx Road in Hopatcong, is hosting a New Year's Eve bash. Ring in the New Year with a four-course meal, music, hats, noisemakers and more. Make a reservation or call for details at 973-770-4300.


The Windlass, 45 Nolan's Point, Lake Hopatcong, has a New Year's Eve special menu, plus regular items all day. There's take out options until 9:30 p.m. Reservations are recommended, with walk-in seating at the bar. Entertainment from 6 to 9 p.m. with pianist Tony Bartone. Call 973-663-3190.

White Birch Restaurant, 380 Route 206, Flanders, has two seatings for New Year’s Eve, one at 5:30 and the other at 8 p.m., for $95 per person for the four-course meal. Find out more information on their website at www.whitebirchrestaurant.com and call 908-955-0443.

Mattar's Bistro, 1115 Route 517, Allamuchy. There are still reservation's available at Mattar's on New Year's Eve, at their 5, 7 and 9:30 p.m. seatings. They are having a DJ from 10 until 12:30 a.m.

Bea McNally's: From 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., ring in the New Year at Bea McNally's in Hackettstown, at 109 Grand Avenue.


The Sizzle, on 268 Main Street in Hackettstown is open for dine in and take out on New Year's Eve and Day, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, from 12 to 10 p.m. Call 9-8-850-6000.

What Is Currently Open On New Year’s Day

Luckily, many businesses and restaurants near Hopatcong and Sparta plan be open on Jan. 1 to help accommodate New Year’s Day plans.

First, if you prefer to shop small and support local businesses, many local shops and restaurants will be open on New Year’s Day near Hopatcong and Sparta, however, it is best to check first before heading out, as many have modified their schedules because of the pandemic, with schedules subject to change.

On the other hand, if you’re hoping to step out for some socially distanced shopping or dining, here’s a selection of national retail stores and chain restaurants that will be open on New Year’s Day, according to lists compiled by Good Housekeeping, The Pioneer Woman, Parade and others.
