Reston Community Center Adds Clarke, Danaher To Senior Management Team

RESTON, VA — Reston Community Center recently appointed Lorna Campbell Clarke and Kevin Danaher its new director of communications and director of leisure and learning, respectively, according to a release.

Before coming to RCC, Clarke served as Volunteer Fairfax's director of communications since early 2019. Prior to that, she led communication teams at the American Red Cross, Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce, and Christian Service Charities.

Loudoun Business magazine profiled Clarke as a “Business Woman to Watch." In 2021, the UnoSouls organization interviewed Clarke about her experience surviving the COVID-19 pandemic and dealing with racial inequalities in the U.S. In addition, Gov. Ralph Northam nominated Clarke to the Virginia Governor’s Advisory Board of Service and Volunteerism.

“We interviewed a highly-qualified group of candidates for this critical position and are thrilled to have Lorna with us,” said RCC Board of Governors Chair Beverly Cosham, in a release. “She greatly impressed us with her breadth of knowledge and understanding of the communications field. We look forward to her becoming acquainted with our civic partners and furthering our collective impact.”

Clarke fills the position vacated by BeBe Nguyen, who took over as RCC’s deputy director in January.

An RCC employee since 1999, Danaher most recently was the center's events director. In that role, he managed events like the Reston Multicultural Festival and the Thanksgiving Food Drive. He also had two stretches working as the CenterStage's assistant technical director, from 1990-1992 and again from 1999-2008.

A Reston resident since 1990, Danaher earned a BFA in Theatre Production and Design from Catholic University of America.

“Kevin has an unparalleled understanding of how our community partners support Reston’s leisure time aspirations and deep knowledge of both RCC and Fairfax County government systems and values. He will hit the ground running in this new capacity leading our outstanding recreation professionals,” RCC Executive Director Leila Gordon said, in a release. “I have complete confidence that he will succeed in growing RCC’s programs and services for Reston in the tradition of excellence he’s established.”

Danaher will assume his new position on May 23. He takes over for Karen Brutsché, who retired in February.
