The restored Looff and football is in the air

Hello everyone !

Summertime evokes memories for us all. For many Rhode Islanders, a ride on the Looff Carousel in East Providence is one of them. With its colorfully painted steeds, it has been a delight to ride for many youngsters over many generations. Journal photographer Kris Craig was there recently and not only did some compelling photos, but video as well. Video from our staff is something you can see on providencejournal.com, so you can not only see but hear the sounds of stories we are working on.

There are cameras everywhere you look these days. That includes the body cameras now in use by many of our local police departments. Warwick police K9 officer Aaron Steere and his four legged partner Garry graciously posed for us this week for a photo showing his new body cam. It was his first day on the job  using the new equipment.

Yes it is August, but football is gearing up for a new season on all levels. Of course the Patriots are practicing for what New England fans hope will be a successful season. But that also means that our local high schools and colleges are back on the gridiron as well. Kris spent some time this week with the Central High School Knights at a practice.

And Journal writer Amy Russo took a walk through the North Burial ground in Providence this week. Although of us pass it either driving or walking while in Providence, Amy will bring to life the scene and history there for an upcoming story and photos that you will be able to see on providencejournal.com
