Results are in: Parkview's Tyler Thompson recognized as student of the week

The votes have been counted and it is time to recognize our next Student of the Week.

With the majority of votes in their favor, Tyler Thompson of Parkview High School has taken home the title.

In the nomination, Tyler was described as always going above and beyond to help others and better the school community. Dedicated to the well-being of fellow students, they stand out as a leader.

Tyler is engaged in various groups including DECA (International Association of Marketing Students), debate, NAACP and is also a staff member for the Parkview Chronicle Magazine. They bring a dynamic and positive energy to any environment, inspiring those around them.

Student of the Week is a new initiative by the News-Leader to highlight the academic achievements of local area high school students. Nominations for students who have shown outstanding academic and school achievement and community service are gathered from administrators at participating districts in the Ozarks.

The readers voted for who they thought were the best of the best in our poll.

Besides Thompson, here is who else was considered this week:

Mathias Buechter, Spokane High School: Mathias participates and leads his Spokane school community in a variety of ways. He is the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter vice president, vice president of the Spokane chapter of the National Honor Society and FBLA District 18 secretary and national competitor. Mathias also does extensive tutoring of Spokane's English Language Learner students, participates in marching band and track and is one of two student representatives for the Board of Education. He was recognized with the National Rural and Small Town Award in 2023 by the College Board.

Aidan Johnson, Ozark High School: Aidan is a member of the Natural Resources & Agriculture Academy and described as the perfect example of a teachable student — one who is able and willing to learn. He is always ready to learn about new things in order to solve problems and help others, both in the classroom and in the community. Aidan has performed well in his classes, but just as importantly, he has also taken the initiative to expand his learning past the traditional classroom.
