Results released for Friday night OVI checkpoint in Trotwood

Apr. 17—A moving sobriety checkpoint on Salem Avenue in Trotwood has come to an end.

The OVI checkpoint started at 8 p.m. in the area of 4825 Salem Ave. and 5380 Salem Ave., and was conducted by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and Trotwood Police Department.

In total, 399 cars passed through the checkpoint.

Of those vehicles, 38 cars were diverted for checks, leading to seven citations for driving under suspended licenses, two citations for driving without a license, and a single person arrested on felony weapons charges. One weapon was seized.

Nobody was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

State law requires that OVI checkpoint times and locations be announced ahead of time.

The goal of the checkpoint is to reduce the number of impaired drivers on the road, reduce the number of alcohol-related crashes, spread awareness for the consequences of driving impaired and to make the roads safer, according to the OVI task force.
