Here are the results from the UIL Region 16 marching band contest in Lubbock

On Saturday, more than 40 marching bands from around the South Plains competed for a coveted Division 1 rating at the UIL Region 16 marching band contest.

The contest at PlainsCapital Park stretched all day, with the first small school stepping off just after 9 a.m. and ending with the announcement of large school ratings a bit before 10 p.m.

Bands do not compete against each other in the regional contest; rather, they perform their 5-8 minute shows for an evaluation from a panel of three judges and an opportunity to advance to the next level of competition. Bands are judged on criteria such as musical tone quality, technical proficiency and precise marching drill execution.

The judges assign each band a final rating: Division 1 — Superior; Division 2 — Excellent; Division 3 — Average; Division 4 — Below Average; or Division 5 — Poor.

Judges for classes 1A and 2A were Mike Lunney, Greg Miller and Susan Reynolds. Judges for 3A through 6A were David McEntyre, Travis Smith and Charles Trayler.

Bands that received a Division 1 rating advance to the area contest for their classification, and 2A, 4A and 6A schools have a shot to advance to the state competition this year.

Below are all the results from the Region 16 UIL marching contest, listed by classification.
