Retail chain to open new Modesto location — and it’s hiring. Here’s how much it pays
For those searching for a retail job in Modesto, Harbor Freight Tools is accepting applications for its new location opening on Oakdale Road this summer.
For those in the market for new tools and not near the supply store’s closest location on Carpenter Road, there will soon be another option for you to get your fix.

Where the store will be
The newest Modesto Harbor Freight location will be at Oakmoor Plaza, 1717 Oakdale Road. A Rent-A-Center, Big Lots and Baskin-Robbins also are in the shopping center.
The store is expected to open in the summer, and an official opening date will be announced later, store representatives said in a news release.
“We’ve been looking to open another location in Modesto for a number of years so that we can provide the tools and equipment at tremendous values to the community,” said Trey Feiler, senior vice president, real estate and construction for Harbor Freight Tools, in a statement. “In addition to finding a great location, we were attracted by the availability of great associates in the Modesto area, and we look forward to having them join the Harbor Freight team.”
Job descriptions and pay
Positions will include sales and logistic supervisors, senior associates and sales associates, according to the news release.
Seasonal opportunities will also be available, which are described as “temporary positions that will be assisting with the setup, stocking and opening of the new store.”
These positions pay $17 per hour and require open availability.
Applicants for retail stocking associate positions must be at least 18 years old with the ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed. The expected pay rate is $17 per hour.
The anticipated pay rate for retail sales associates is also $17 per hour. Applicants must be at least 18 and available to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.
Retail stocking supervisor applicants must have at least one year of experience in a retail leadership role and be at least 18. The anticipated pay rate is $20.05 per hour depending on factors including experience.

The tool supply store is expected to bring between 25 and 30 new jobs to Modesto, according to the news release.

According to the release, Harbor Freight offers a retail benefits package that includes health coverage and Thanksgiving and Christmas off.
As part of Harbor Freight’s hiring process, applicants will be sent a link and are asked to submit an assessment in the form of games to “show skills in action.”
