Retail gasoline prices hold steady this week across Texas going into Labor Day holiday weekend

HOUSTON (AP) -- Retail gasoline prices have held steady across Texas going into the long Labor Day holiday weekend.

AAA Texas on Wednesday reported the statewide average price at the pump is the same as last week at $3.42 per gallon. The nationwide cost of gasoline rose 2 cents to reach an average $3.55 per gallon.

The association survey found El Paso has the cheapest gasoline at $3.33 per gallon. Dallas and Fort Worth have the most expensive gas at an average $3.45 per gallon.

AAA predicts more than 2 million Texans will travel over Labor Day weekend. Gasoline prices across Texas are down 16 cents compared to a year ago.

Experts say unrest and violence in the Middle East and North Africa have kept global oil prices higher than recent summers.
