Retail stores, venues and institutions across Hampton Roads are following suit after the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention eased mask requirements May 13 for people who are fully vaccinated.
Gov. Ralph Northam announced the next day Virginia will align with CDC guidelines, allowing individuals to discard their masks indoors if they’ve been inoculated.
Individuals who have not been vaccinated should wear a mask upon entry, according to CDC guidance.
The Commonwealth is vaccinating people age 12 and older. It typically takes about two weeks for one’s body to build immunity against the virus after completing a vaccine dosage regimen, the CDC said.
Northam said the state will lift remaining COVID-19 restrictions May 28.
