This Retailer Is Giving Out $1,000 to the Person With the Best "Mask-terpiece"

Vaccines may be coming in hot, but it's clear that this unforgiving pandemic is far from over. That being said, if we're going to have to wear face masks for the foreseeable future, we might as well have fun with it, right? Vehicle cover manufacturer and retailer EmpireCovers agrees, which is why it launched a fun contest to emphasize the importance of mask-wearing and challenge our design skills.

From now until March 17, 2021, the retailer is calling all mask wearers to submit a photo that shows off his or her best "mask-terpiece" or most fun or unique facial covering. Once all the entries are in, EmpireCovers will select 50 finalists and publish their photos on the site. Then, online visitors can cast their vote for their favorite mask. The mask creation with the most votes will receive $1,000 in cash. EmpireCovers will also be donating $1,000 to the Barstool Fund, a fund that supports small businesses that are struggling due to COVID-19.

Now, in terms of what qualifies as a "mask-terpiece," the answer is pretty much open-ended and up for interpretation. EmpireCovers doesn't have any exact criteria per se but is looking for any or all face masks that show off one's personality or interests to the world. "Masks can be as simple or creative as possible," a representative for the company wrote in an e-mail. That being said, think of it as a Halloween costume contest—except for your face mask. It can be anything you want it to be as long as it securely covers your mouth and nose. Lady Gaga's mask collection at the VMA awards is a great source of inspiration if you ask me.
