Retired Largo police K-9 dies after years of service

LARGO, Fla. (WFLA) — The Largo Police Department is mourning the death of one of its beloved retired K-9s, Murphy.

The police department announced the sad passing of Murphy on Sunday. The faithful K-9 worked for the department alongside his handler, Office Pat Newbill, for nine years.

“The Largo Police Department is saddened to inform you that Retired K-9 Murphy has passed away. Our thoughts are with Officer Newbill, his family, and all those who knew and loved K-9 Murphy.”

During Murphy’s career, he had more than 100 arrests and detained more than 650 suspects. He also represented the Largo Police Department in America’s Top Dog competition.

“Rest in peace, K-9 Murphy. You will be remembered. 🐾💙” LPD wrote on Facebook.
