Retired Limestone County Chief Deputy, SRO passes away

LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — Fred Sloss, a retired Chief Deputy and SRO for the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office, died on Monday.

The sheriff’s office announced Sloss’s passing in a post on social media.

Sloss was well known in the Limestone County area, playing football for East Limestone High School before starting his career in law enforcement.

According to LCSO, Sloss served the citizens of Limestone County as a Deputy Sheriff, School Resource Officer, Lieutenant, and Patrol Captain. He was with the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office for 25 years.

“Our office and the citizens of our county will forever remember Chief Sloss’ unwavering loyalty, dedication, friendship, and service,” LCSO said.

Sloss retired in 2021. However, he did try to run for Sheriff in 2022 but lost.
