A retired cardiac intensive care unit nurse with nearly 40 years’ experience will be U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood’s guest Tuesday when she attends President Joe Biden’s State of the Union Address.

U.S. Rep. Sean Casten, D-Downers Grove, selected DuPage Pads CEO and President April Redzic as his guest, and Michael Isaacson, executive director of the Kane County Health Department, will be attending at the invitation of U.S. Rep. Bill Foster, D-Naperville.

Underwood, D-Naperville, said in a news release that Cindy Mundell, a Naperville resident, represents the very best of northern Illinois.

“A dedicated cardiac nurse with more than 36 years of service, Cindy is the definition of a helper. She exemplifies the values that House Democrats are so proud to work for and defend, and I could not be more honored to welcome Cindy to the Capitol this Tuesday,” Underwood said.

Mundell said she’s thrilled to be joining Underwood to hear “about the progress we have made and the work we have to do to defend the values and programs we hold so dear.”

A Medicare and Social Security beneficiary, Mundell said the release that she earned her retirement.

“It’s unconscionable to me that Republicans are working to take that away, but I am so thankful to President Biden and Rep. Underwood for their work to protect it,” she said.

Casten said he’s inspired by the work done under Redzic’s leadership through DuPagePads, the county’s largest provider of emergency shelter and supportive housing.

Redzic has led the organization for the past two years, after almost two decades of experience working with housing nonprofits across the Chicago area.

Speaking in a news release, Casten said the advocacy and support of the individuals housed by DuPage Pads makes a difference in the community.

Foster said Isaacson has spent his entire career dedicated to keeping our communities safe and healthy.

“During the darkest days of COVID-19, Michael coordinated local pandemic response programs that helped prevent the spread of the virus, and ultimately save lives,” Foster said in his release.
