Good morning! It was quite the weekend at Georgia for those that like homecoming stories.

First former Georgia quarterback and offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, as expected, was officially announced as an offensive analyst.

Then two days later, we learned Bryan McClendon was returning to Georgia as wide receivers coach and, the school announced Monday, as passing game coordinator.

“Ok Now I’ll Be Back In Athens More Finally LFG,” former Bulldogs star running back Todd Gurley tweeted about the McClendon news.

Some thoughts on what adding Bobo and McClendon means:

--For Bobo, this is not only a professional move but a personal one after spending the last three seasons at three different spots: Colorado State as head coach, South Carolina as offensive coordinator and Auburn as coordinator again.

His son Drew will be a Bulldogs freshman offensive lineman this season. He was on a recruiting visit this weekend and Mike was there as a father with wife Lainie and their children posing for a photos that Drew posted on his Instagram.

--One bonus of adding McClendon is that he just spent the last two seasons at Oregon including as interim head coach for the Alamo Bowl. He knows the personnel there which can only help in preparing for the Ducks and new coach Dan Lanning in the season opener.

--Kirby Smart should have another playing partner in the offseason on the golf course. Bobo said a couple of years ago that he and center Travis Johnson used to go up against Smart and punter Dax Langley when they were Bulldog teammates.

“We were always competing there,” Bobo said. “We had the upper hand for a while but we haven’t won in a while.”

--Bobo also reunites with another former Georgia player, Will Muschamp, who he served as offensive coordinator for in 2020 at South Carolina.

Bobo, Muschamp and Smart are now all working again at their alma mater. Muschamp is co-defensive coordinator.

“I take pride in the fact that we all kind of grew up educators’ kids, coaches’ kids,” Smart said in 2017. “We grew up around the game. It is what we have been around all of our lives, so I respect both of those guys and think they do a great job.”

--McClendon, a Georgia native who has recruited in the SEC region for the Bulldogs and for four seasons at South Carolina, has the recruiting chops.

He was ranked No. 18 among assistant coaches in the 247Sports recruiter rankings in the Pac-12 in 2021 and No. 13 in the SEC in 2018 at South Carolina.

At Georgia he was credited for recruiting the likes of Lorenzo Carter, Sony Michel and Nick Chubb.

--McClendon gives Georgia now six members of the staff with head coaching experience besides Smart. McClendon is 1-1 as an interim head coach. Mike Bobo spent five seasons as Colorado State head coach. Todd Monken is a former Southern Miss head coach. Will Muschamp was head coach at Florida and South Carolina. Matt Luke was head coach at Ole Miss. Dell McGee was interim head coach for a bowl win at Georgia Southern.
