Stark County native Rev. Donald King has been appointed interim president of Stark County Catholic Schools.

Bishop David J. Bonnar, head of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown, made the appointment effective July 1. Over the past month, King has been meeting with school leaders and stakeholders.

King retired in August 2019 as pastor of St. Michael the Archangel parish in Plain Township, where he had served since 2010. He also previously served as pastor of Blessed Sacrament parish in Warren.

His various other assignments include time as associate pastor of parishes in Stark County.

King attended St. Benedict School and Central Catholic High School in Canton. He has served on Catholic school boards in both Stark and Trumbull counties.

As interim president of Stark County Catholic Schools, King is providing leadership for Canton Central Catholic High School and St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Louisville, with the responsibility of identifying strengths and opportunities for each school.

"Father King is well known in Stark County, and his pastoral and leadership gifts will serve us well during this current transitional time," Mary Fiala, superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Youngstown, said in a prepared statement.

King succeeds Dan Gravo, who was appointed president in 2017.
