Jan. 11—Several events are planned starting Saturday in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day that will be observed on Monday.

The city of Lenoir is hosting several events during the weekend, including a breakfast, gospel singing, memory march and celebration.

The Martin Luther King Jr. breakfast will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center, at 313 Greenhaven Drive, said Joshua Harris, Lenoir director of communication and public information.

The keynote speaker at the breakfast will be Pastor James Wilfong, with Highway to Hedges Ministry in Lenoir.

Tickets for the breakfast are $15 and need to be purchased before the breakfast on Saturday. To purchase tickets, contact the center at 828-757-2170. Tickets will not be sold at the door.

A Martin Luther King Jr. gospel singing is also planned this weekend and will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center.

Faith Dula Banner, the Dixon Sisters out of Belton, S.C., and 4Ever Faithful from Morganton will perform. This event is free to the public.

A Martin Luther King Jr. Memory March and Celebration is planned Monday afternoon.

Anyone interested in participating in the march should meet at the upper parking lot at J.E. Broyhill Park, at 509 Ridge St. in Lenoir, at 1 p.m.

The march will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the park and continue to the Martin Luther King Jr. Center. The march is being organized by the Caldwell County NAACP Branch 5410.

A celebration will follow the march and begin at 2 p.m. at the center. The guest speaker will be Will Griffin.

There is no cost to attend the march or celebration.
