Jan. 7—MIDLAND — A former Odessan, the Rev. Amy Haynie has accepted the rectorship of St. Nicholas Episcopal Church in her ministry to reflect the love of Christ and respect the dignity of everyone.

"My husband David and I are excited to start the next chapter of our lives in Midland with God's beloved people at St Nicholas," said the Rev. Haynie, who is also known as Mother Amy. "As the new priest in town, I'm looking forward to getting to know my new community through parishioners, colleagues and community leaders. I am curious about what God is up to in Midland right now and how to partner in whatever that work may be."

St. Nicholas' Episcopal Church meets at 9:30 a.m. Sundays at 4000 N. Loop 250 W.

Having lived in Odessa from 1977-1984, Haynie comes here from Trinity Episcopal Church in Fort Worth, where she had served as associate rector since 2016, prior to which she served the Episcopal Church of Wichita Falls and the St. Martin in the Fields Church in Keller, 19 miles north-northeast of Fort Worth.

Haynie was installed as rector, or priest, during All Saints' Day Nov. 6. Her husband is a retired cardiologist. They have two sons.

Haynie is a native of Archer City, 26 miles south of Wichita Falls, who graduated from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls and worked for a decade in nursing till earning a master's degree in divinity at Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

St. Nicholas Senior Warden Joan Whitt said Haynie "is accessible, compassionate and experienced and she cares about what our church means to each parishioner.

"Mother Amy wholeheartedly embraces the theology of being open and affirming to every single person," Whitt said. "Her sermons are inspirational and enlightening and her former career in nursing makes her uniquely gifted in the area of pastoral care.

"If you are in search of a church home and don't feel like you fit wherever you are, we invite you to come give us a try. St. Nicholas' Episcopal Church is a diverse body of Christians that blends together to carry the message of love and welcome to all."
