Reward offered to catch Gilroy homicide victim’s killer

(KRON) — Exactly eight years ago, Vidal Zepeda’s lifeless body was found floating in a canal more than 100 miles away from his Gilroy home. Law enforcement officials announced a $5,000 reward on Thursday for information that can help catch Zepeda’s killer.

The 39-year-old man’s family said the last time they talked to him was on the afternoon of February 4, 2016. He was reported as missing to Gilroy police two days later.

After the missing person report was filed, officers found his Ford Flex SUV parked in a pistachio orchard near Highway 33 in Fresno County.

On February 22, 2016, someone spotted a body in the waters of California Aqueduct near Three Rocks, and they reported it to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office. A sheriff’s dive team recovered the body, which was later confirmed to be Zepeda.

No arrests have been made.
