Rexburg man, 21, killed in fiery car crash

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (ABC4) — A 21-year-old Rexburg man died in a fiery car crash in Idaho Falls Wednesday.

The crash happened just before 12:45 p.m. on eastbound U.S. 20 near milepost 308 in Idaho Falls, according to Idaho State Police.

Officials report electrocution at prominent local copper mine

The man was reportedly driving westbound on U.S. 20 in a 2008 Ford Mustang. At the same time, a 43-year-old from Moore, Idaho was driving eastbound on U.S. 20 in a 2015 Freightliner pulling a propane trailer.

The Ford Mustang drove across the median and into the eastbound lanes, colliding with the Freightliner, police said.

Both vehicles became engulfed in flames, and the 21-year-old died from his injuries at the scene. The driver of the Freightliner was reportedly transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital.

Police said traffic on eastbound U.S. 20 remains blocked to allow emergency responders to assist those involved and clear the scene. It has been approximately four hours since the collision.

Idaho State Police was assisted by the Idaho Falls Police Department, Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office, Idaho Falls Fire Department, and the Idaho Transportation Department.
