A Reynoldsburg motorcyclist died Wednesday evening after a crash with a car on Columbus' North Side.

Simon Johnson, 27, was pronounced dead at a local hospital less than an hour after the collision, which occurred shortly before 5 p.m. at the intersection of Morse and Sinclair roads.

David Moore, 27, of Columbus, was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze east on Morse Road and attempting a left turn with a green light onto Sinclair Road when his car hit the eastbound 2019 Ducati Panigale V4 motorcycle that Johnson was driving, according to the Columbus police traffic crash report.

Johnson was thrown from the motorcycle, which lost a tire and caught fire following the crash.

Multiple witnesses told the Columbus police Accident Investigation Unit that the motorcyclist was weaving fast and in between cars. One witness estimated the motorcyclist was traveling at least 60 miles per hour, according to the police report.

Johnson was transported to OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:35 p.m.

Moore was not injured. Both vehicles involved in the crash sustained serious damage, and were taken to an impound lot.

The crash remains under investigation.
