Reynoldsburg schools names Sandusky administrator Tracy Reed as new superintendent

The new superintendent of Reynoldsburg City Schools is to begin Feb. 1, 2023, in a full-time capacity after transitioning into the role in January.

Tracy Reed, chief academic officer at Sandusky City Schools, was named Reynoldsburg's new superintendent Dec. 20 during a special meeting of the school board.

“The board of education is thrilled to welcome Dr. Tracy Reed to our Raider family,” board President Debbie Dunlap said.

Reed's contract runs through July 31, 2025, and she will be paid an annual base salary of $167,000 with 2% increases each year beginning Aug. 1, 2023. The salary figure does not include her benefits package.

Reed brings experiences from large and small districts and “a track record of building strong relationships,” Dunlap said, adding Reed has “a reflective approach to decision-making and an unwavering advocacy for diverse students and families."

“We are confident she will fit well with our team and lead the district forward with a commitment to Reynoldsburg’s strategic goals with the characteristics and qualities we heard were important to our stakeholders during our community engagement process," Dunlap said.

The other finalist was Claude Tiller Jr., assistant superintendent of high school transformation in the Detroit Public Schools Community District.

Before selecting Reed, board members met in an executive session Dec. 14 with staff and several stakeholder groups to interview two finalists, according to Stephanie Beougher, the district's director of communications.

The two finalists were selected after board members interviewed five candidates during executive sessions Dec. 7 and 8.

In addition to Reed and Tiller, the other candidates interviewed were:

  • David Harmon, chief of human resources, Dayton Public Schools

  • M. Denise Lutz, chief technology officer, Upper Arlington Schools

  • Naim Sanders, assistant superintendent, Reynoldsburg City Schools

The district received 18 applications.

Before serving as chief academic officer of Sandusky City Schools, Reed began her education career as a sixth-grade teacher in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District and served as an assistant principal, assistant superintendent and other administrative roles at districts in Ohio, Indiana and Michigan.

Reed has an undergraduate degree in elementary education from the University of Cincinnati, a master’s degree in educational supervision from Cleveland State University and a doctorate in educational leadership from Indiana University.

Reed is to succeed interim Superintendent Jocelyn Cosgrave, whom board members appointed Oct. 10 as the fourth person to act as the district’s superintendent in 2022. Cosgrave is to remain in that role until Jan. 31 and then continue as chief academic officer under a contract that runs through July 31, 2024.

Cosgrave succeeded Dan Good.

Good, who resigned Oct. 7, had served as interim superintendent since July 20, and his contract was to run through Dec. 31.

Good was named interim superintendent after Garilee Ogden, who accepted a three-year contract to succeed Melvin Brown, resigned before the start of the contract term.

Board members on May 26 announced the hiring of Ogden after a search conducted with the assistance of Finding Leaders.

Ogden was supposed to succeed Melvin Brown, who resigned earlier this year to become superintendent of Montgomery Public Schools in Alabama.
