RHAM starts new school year with new super

Aug. 24—HEBRON — The new month will bring the start of the new school year in regional school district eight.

The first day of school for RHAM Junior/ Senior High School is September 1.

RHAM starts the new school year with a new leader as well. Colin McNamara began as the new superintendent as of July 1. McNamara was previously an assistant superintendent in the South Windsor, Killingly and Wallingford school districts. Prior to that he was a principal in Willington and an assistant principal in Fairfax, Virginia.

McNamara takes over the superintendent duties from interim superintendent Scott Leslie, who filled the role on a temporary basis starting in 2020, when the former superintendent resigned. Leslie was the principal of RHAM High School for two decades, after coming to region eight as a science teacher in 1989. Leslie retired at the end of the 2021- 22 school year.

Students who are new to the district, like McNamara, can attend a New Student Orientation scheduled for August 25 from 9: 15 a. m. to 10 a. m. Orientation for high school freshmen will also be held on August 25, from 9: 30 a. m. to 12: 30 a. m.

An Open House for parents is scheduled for September 15 at 6: 30 p. m.

or at Veterans Memorial Park across the street from the high school. Parking permits cost $ 100 and are valid for the entire school year. Permits must be purchased through PowerSchool using SchoolPay.
