RHAM wrestlers win Snitkin Duals

Jan. 23—NORWICH — Gavin Plourde (132 pounds) and Boone Swanson ( 170) recorded pins in under a minute and the RHAM wrestling team edged host Norwich Free Academy 42-40 on Saturday in the championship round of the Carl Snitkin Duals.

Ben Fournier (106), Kyle Cormier (138) and Jeremy Devine (160) also had pins for the No.9 state-ranked Raptors (18-2).

RHAM went 3- 0 in Pool B with victories over Ledyard ( 66- 8), Notre Dame-West Haven (54-26) and Jonathan Law (66-15).

Against Ledyard, Michael Guerriero ( 120), Harley Emmons (145), Seth Dunko (160), Patrick Dunko (220) and Thiago Delacruz (285) had pins. Devine recorded the fastest fall of the day with a 21-second pin against the Colonels.

Windham went undefeated in four matches at Platt High School in Meriden defeating Nonnewaug (5424), Platt (57-12), Canton ( 63- 14) and East Haven (66-6).

The Whips (11-2) recorded eight pins against Canton from Delmazio Despard ( 113), Oscar Mendoza-Soto ( 126), E. J. Jenkins (132), Nick Valliere (138), Nick Blanco (152), Aaron Palacios- Mendoza ( 160), Asael Garcia- Rodgriguez (182) and Malachi Fowler (195).

Nehemiah Czelusniak (132) and Jayden Veilleux (138) each had four pins as Lyman Memorial/Windham Tech co-op won all four of its matches at the Granby Duals. Lyman defeated Darien A (60-21), Darien B (78-6), Suffield/Windsor Locks (54-24) and Windsor (60-18).

Hunter Sanchez ( 120126), David Bean ( 145), Cameron Sammarco (170182), Zachary Rebello ( 182- 195) and Vincent Gauvin (195-220) all won three matches by pin for the Bulldogs (10-7).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Taylor Pankowski scored 15 points with five rebounds and four steals as Lyman Memorial remained unbeaten in Division IV of the Eastern Connecticut Conference with a 46-24 victory over Wheeler in North Stonington.

Kassidy LaTour added 13 points and eight steals while Jenny Lopez had 10 points, nine assists and three steals and Kelsey Dunnack had eight rebounds and three steals for the Bulldogs (9-3, 4-0 league), who led 18-5 after one quarter.

Maddie Hughes scored 22 of her game-high 28 points in the first half in helping lift E.O. Smith to a 72-47 Central Connecticut Conference East Division victory over Manchester in Storrs on Friday.

Jill Dingler added 20 points — including nine in the fourth quarter — and Bella Mallory finished with 13 points to pace the Panthers (10-2, 5-0 league).

Junior captain Kaelyn Pearl recorded a double- double (16 points, 10 steals) and Parish Hill led 24- 6 after one quarter and 33- 17 at halftime in its 66- 38 Capital Region Athletic League victory Friday night over Achievement First in Hartford.

Grace Quinn added 16 points while Ashlyn Kemp ( 11) and Hannah Becker ( 10) all scored in double figures for the Pirates (6-6, 5- 2 league).

Hailey Flores scored 19 points and Windham fought back from an early 16- 0 deficit to rally for a 41- 31 ECC Division III victory over Plainfield on Friday night in Central Village.

Jaelize Rivera added 11 points and Aniyah Jenkins scored six points with 11 rebounds and five assists for the Whips ( 6- 6, 4- 0 league), who snapped a 5- game losing streak.

Anaka Eaton scored 20 points and grabbed 20 rebounds for Coventry in its 48- 29 North Central Connecticut Conference victory on Friday night at Canton.

Charlotte Jordan finished with 14 points and five steals and Jianna Foran had six points and five steals as the Patriots ( 9- 4, 4- 2 league), who outscored the Warriors (5-7, 2-4) 30-17 over the second and third quarters.

RHAM ( 9- 4) defeated Rocky Hill 49- 33 in a CCC inter- division game in Hebron.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Troy Miller led all scorers with 24 points to lift RHAM past Bacon Academy 60-48 in a non-league game on Saturday in Hebron.
