Looks like a Mickey Mouse operation.
Rhode Island mailed out 176 tax refunds checks inked with the signatures of Mickey Mouse and Walt Disney on lines meant for the the general treasurer and state controller, the Providence Journal reported.
Neither the beloved anthropomorphic mouse nor the late cartoonist occupy positions in the Rhode Island state government. Disney died in 1966. Mickey Mouse is fictional.
The Rhode Island Department of Revenue’s chief of staff, Jade Borgeson, said the misprints occurred due to a “technical error,” and they have been voided, according to the Journal.
The tax division in the Ocean State plugs the names Mickey Mouse and Walt Disney on dummy checks, according to a spokesperson cited by WPRI-TV.
Mickey Mouse couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
