Rhode Island man charged after allegedly threatening to ‘kill every Democrat,' eat pro-abortion professor

A Rhode Island man allegedly threatened to murder a pro-abortion rights professor and “kill every Democrat in the world," federal officials announced Wednesday.

Matthew Haviland, 30, of North Kingstown was charged Wednesday after sending approximately 28 threatening emails on March 10 to a college professor, whose name and affiliation was withheld by federal officials. Haviland is facing federal threat charges and cyberstalking.

In an affidavit, FBI task force officer Richard Laft, Jr. wrote that the professor told authorities Haviland’s “views regarding abortion and politics have become more extreme” within the last year. The professor, who had been friends with Haviland for about 11 years, believed Haviland’s views changed because “of the way the news media portrays” President Donald Trump, Laft wrote.

Haviland used social media to praise Trump and accuse the news media of attempting to ruin his presidency, the Daily Beast reported.

The professor, referred to as "Victim 1," publicly advocated for abortion rights.

“You are Evil. Pure evil — all Democrats must be eradicated, like the Confederates before them and among their ranks,” Haviland wrote to the professor in a series of emails sent within a three-hour period. “They must be slaughtered.”

In a separate email, Haviland also threatened that people wearing "pink f-----g hats," seemingly referring to hats worn by the Women's March supporters, "should all be slaughtered."

He also threatened to murder the professor, saying he would "rip every limb from your body and eat it, piece by piece."

“You will have your face ripped off and eaten by me, personally,” he also told the professor.

In addition, Haviland sent 12 threatening emails to the admissions office of the professor's university on March 15.

Haviland also left over 100 voice messages on April 4 and 5 at an abortion clinic in Rhode Island, where he compared doctors who work at the clinic to Nazis. According to the affidavit, Haviland admitted to authorities that he made the calls, but had no intent of harming anyone.
