Rhode Island Primary Voting Guide: Everything you need to know to get your ballot

In the weeks ahead, voters will have a chance to choose the Republican and Democratic Party nominees in races for top state offices, from the governor on down, as well as legislative seats, local offices and Rhode Island's 2nd Congressional District seat, which is open for the first time in two decades.

When is the 2022 Rhode Island state primary?

The Rhode Island state primary is Sept. 13. However, early voting is available.

When are polls open on Election Day?

Polls are open on Election Day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in every city and town except New Shoreham, where poll hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

What is the voter registration deadline for the September primary?

Rhode Island voters must register to vote by Aug. 14.

When is the party disaffiliation deadline?

The disaffiliation deadline is Aug. 15.

How do I vote in the Rhode Island primary?

There are three options for voting: early in-person voting at city or town hall or another designated location between Aug. 24 and Sept. 12; in-person voting on Election Day at a designated polling station; or voting by mail ballot.

Early voting hours have yet to be determined, but they will be indicated here once they are: vote.sos.ri.gov/Elections/PollingPlaceHours. This information should be available sometime in early August.

Will I need an ID to vote in Rhode Island?

When is the mail ballot application deadline?

The deadline to apply for a mail ballot to vote in the primary is Aug. 23.

When is the general election?

The general election is Nov. 8.

When is the voter registration deadline for the general election?

The voter registration deadline is Oct. 9; the mail ballot application deadline is Oct. 18.

When is the early in-person voting period?
