Rhone finds perfection in Big Spring bowling tournament

I have a feeling that, like me, from the day you become a sanctioned bowler, the perfect game is a very high goal.

In leagues, tournaments and practice, when you roll a 300 game, you have made a major accomplishment. Bowlers are always immensely proud of this feat.

Bowling in the Big Spring Trio Tournament at the beginning of the month, Johnny Rhone bowled his first perfect game.

I spoke with Johnny and his wife, Karen. They are overly excited.

I asked Johnny my favorite question of bowlers that roll 300 games, “Were you nervous and did you get any lucky breaks during the game?”

Rhone told me that from the very first frame, he flushed the pocket 11 times.

For non-bowlers, this means he hit the 1-3 pocket every time.

Now the pressure was on. He became nervous.

The 12th ball was released a little wide of his target, and he did not think the ball would get back to the pocket. The ball finally turned and ended up in the one-two pocket – better known as the Brooklyn Pocket for right-handed bowlers -- for the last strike needed for the perfect game.

Since this was not a U.S. Bowling Congress sanctioned tournament, only awards for Johnny will be provided by the Big Spring tournament officials. The main thing is that Rhone accomplished the feat of bowling a perfect game that all bowlers wish for. Congratulation Johnny.

BOWLING HIGHLIGHTS

Two of the most difficult splits to convert were accomplished. Cal Roady converted the 7-9 and Richard Bruton converted the Greek Church 4-6-7-9-10. Samantha Rappe bowled her very first 200 game with a nice 210 and 475 series.

The Greater Abilene USBC held its annual meeting and elections on April 1. The male and female bowlers of the year are Andy Rutledge and Bea Stilson. Congratulations to Andy and Bea.
