'RHOP' Star Wendy Osefo Teases Her Third Season, Drama With Mia Thornton, Issues With Gizelle Bryant And Robyn Dixon

Dr. Wendy Osefo brought a different pedigree to the cast of The Real Housewives of Potomac. The Johns Hopkins University professor and political commentator was already a boss before transitioning into reality TV. Since being on the show, she’s used the platform to expand her entrepreneurial endeavors. The mother of three is now an author of a memoir, Tears of My Mother, she owns a candle line and is venturing into the restaurant business. But it doesn’t stop the drama that comes along with being on an ensemble cast.

Last year, we saw a new version of Wendy following her mommy makeover. Some of her co-stars felt her newfound confidence was offputting, especially in her sexier wardrobe. But she didn’t let it defeat her. Her relationships with some also deteriorated after a nasty rumor about her family spread through the group. She let it be known that she’s not one to mess with.

In the upcoming season, she continues to stand strong. Ahead of the season 7 premiere, Shadow and Act Unscripted spoke with Osefo about drama with her co-stars, one of which becomes a physical attack of sorts. She also dishes on her family life, and her various businesses.

Season 7 marks Osefo’s third season on the show. Having already been established as a reputable professor and political commentator before reality television, many wondered why she’d go down this path. She admits she didn’t join the show on a whim.

“I had some reservations before I joined the show…but it’s all about what you allow to change who you are. If who you are at your core is authentic, then no matter the circumstance, it can’t be wavered,” she told us. “And so while I felt that the show could potentially impact the career I had worked so hard for, I’m Dr. Wendy when I’m on reality TV or when I’m not. And so how I move, how I operate is always going to be the same. And so because of that, it’s actually giving me more opportunities. I’m still on TV, I got a promotion, I’m still doing amazing things.”

Things on Potomac have gotten physical before. No one can forget Candiace Dillard-Bassett and Monique Samuels’ physical altercation in Season 5. Dillard-Bassett also threw a handful of salad at Mia Thornton in Season 6. But never did Osefo think she’d be on the receiving end of any altercation. In the trailer, Thornton throws a drink in her face, and Osefo says it’s unforgivable.

“In that moment, I was completely taken aback because I didn’t think – and you guys will see – it wasn’t warranted,” she said. “We were having an exchange of words and an exchange of words. No foul language was used. We were having a heated discussion. And to throw a drink on someone, I think is one of the highest forms of disrespect. To me, it’s almost analogous to spitting on someone. It’s a very high form of disrespect.”

Last season, Osefo’s relationships with Gizelle Bryant and Robyn Dixon were jeopardized when a rumor about her husband was brought to the forefront. She says she’s over it, while the green-eyed bandits are still holding on to it.

“I think in the trailer you guys see me go up to Gizelle and say, ‘Hi.’ She [and] basically give me a cold shoulder,” she said. “I’ve moved on from it. You said your mess, you drag my family, I dragged you, and I can move on from it. But clearly, she’s still in a troubled place. As far as my issue with Robyn, you guys will see this season, she goes out of her way to have a problem with me. So it doesn’t make any sense.”

The season premieres Oct. 9 on Bravo.
