TECUMSEH — The city of Tecumseh will be conducting a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony of its new stage constructed by Timbercraft of Tecumseh on Thursday, July 21, in Adams Park.

This park has been redeveloped with $100,000 in aid from the Elizabeth Ruthruff Wilson Foundation. It now features new sidewalks, new landscaping, lighting and it features a timber frame stage as the centerpiece.

Home to the summer concert series, Music in the Park, free concerts are held the third Thursday in June, July, and August. The original park layout was not conducive to how it was used.

The Wilson Foundation has sponsored the concert series for many years. Two former Tecumseh Schools Orchestra students, Regina Madziar and Zane Buenaflor, will play music from 5:45 to 6 p.m. They are both 2022 graduates of Tecumseh High School.

The ribbon cutting and stage dedication will follow at 6 p.m. Upon completion of the ceremony, Noah Martis and his band will be the featured musicians for the July Music in the Park concert. They will play a mix of jazz and rock until 8 p.m. The public is invited to the ribbon cutting and stage dedication, and then stay to enjoy the concert. The Shawn Riley Band will be playing in August.

Executive director of the Elizabeth R. Wilson Foundation Theresa Powers suggested a stage for the Adams Park Music in the Park series in 2019. The COVID-19 pandemic delayed the project, but was picked up again last year.

“There have been community groups beyond the foundation involved. The little garden club has donated a tree, ReTree Tecumseh has donated trees for the park, and Kiwanis will eventually put a clock in by the sidewalk. This really has been a community project that will provide a great meeting place for years to come,” Tecumseh Parks and Recreation Director Sarah Gilmore said.
