Ric Ocasek, singer for The Cars, dies at 75

Some of the biggest stars in the music industry paid tribute to Ric Ocasek upon hearing news the former frontman of The Cars had died over the weekend.

"So sad. Such a great writer, singer, player, producer," Peter Frampton wrote on Twitter.

Courtney Love wrote on Instagram, "Rest In Peace #ricocasek I know all of the band hole loved working with you, much love to your family"

The band Weezer wrote "The whole weezer family is devastated by the loss of our friend and mentor Ric Ocasek, who passed away Sunday."

Ocasec was the main songwriter for The Cars, whose hits spanned the 1970s and 80s and include "Just What I Needed," "My Best Friend's Girl," and "Good Times Roll."

The band split up in 1988, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year.

A New York City Police spokesperson said Ocasek was pronounced dead at his Manhattan apartment Sunday (September 15) after a 911 call that he was unresponsive.

The cause of death will be determined by the city's coroner.

He was 75 years old.
