Rices Fire Evening Update June 28, 2022
A vegetation fire that started Tuesday afternoon has prompted evacuations in Nevada County, according to Cal Fire, the state's fire management agency. Brian Estes, a spokesperson for Cal Fire, said at a Tuesday evening briefing that the Rices Fire started around 2 p.m. near Rice's Crossing Road just north of the south fork of the Yuba River Drainage. Hundreds of personnel are working on both the ground and air to halt the spread of the fire, Estes said. There is concern that the fire could get to the north part of the Yuba River Drainage. If that happens, it could start burning into Yuba County, and access moving resources would become more difficult.
