On the BAFTA red carpet, Richard E. Grant recalls his meetings with Prince Philip, while BAFTA Chief Executive Amanda Berry discusses the late Duke's impact on the organization. (April 11)
- Did you ever meet him? He was obviously BAFTA president.
RICHARD GRANT: I did on quite a few occasions.
- And how did you find him?
RICHARD GRANT: As everybody would tell you, very forthright, eagle-eyed, and interested, which considering the amount of people that he had to meet on a daily basis in life is extraordinary.
AMANDA BERRY: We have a long history with Prince Philip and the royal family. Prince William is our president now, the Duke of Cambridge, and Prince Philip was our very first president. He was actually the reason that the Film and Television Academies came together. And at that time, we became the Society of Film and Television Arts. And then in the mid 70s, we became BAFTA. And it was thanks to a donation from the royal family that we were able to open our wonderful headquarters on Piccadilly.
