Richard Torrez Jr. appears ready to take it up a notch.

Saturday’s showing against Tyrell Anthony Herndon might’ve proved that.

The Tulare native picked up another win by way of a technical knockout in the second round of the scheduled six-round bout at the Fort Bend Epicenter in Rosenberg, Texas.

It is Torrez’s (7-0) seventh knockout since turning pro in 2021.

“I’m not expecting knockouts,” Torrez said. “When I don’t expect them, that’s when they happen. It’s a Catch 22. If I expect the knockouts, then they don’t happen. I just want to show my boxing ability, and I got two rounds this time. I’m looking forward to the next one.”

Will Torrez’s next fight be scheduled for an eight round fight? Fans would like to see that.

Torrez would welcome the next step.

This is a process,” Torrez said. “Top Rank has the best matchmakers, and I fight whoever they put in front of me. If they say I’m ready to fight eight-rounders next, I’ll be ready.”

Torrez was too much for Herndon (21-5, 14 KOs) as he delivered punches after punches in the second round.

Herndon turned his back and referee Alejandro Leon waved off the fight.

Fans were impressed with Torrez.

Torrez said he is looking forward to seeing who is next.

“I’m willing to do whatever it takes to get to the next level,” he said. “I’m excited for the future.”
