Richard Torrez Jr. appears ready to take it up a notch.
Saturday’s showing against Tyrell Anthony Herndon might’ve proved that.
The Tulare native picked up another win by way of a technical knockout in the second round of the scheduled six-round bout at the Fort Bend Epicenter in Rosenberg, Texas.
It is Torrez’s (7-0) seventh knockout since turning pro in 2021.
“I’m not expecting knockouts,” Torrez said. “When I don’t expect them, that’s when they happen. It’s a Catch 22. If I expect the knockouts, then they don’t happen. I just want to show my boxing ability, and I got two rounds this time. I’m looking forward to the next one.”
Will Torrez’s next fight be scheduled for an eight round fight? Fans would like to see that.
Can #Richardtorrez pick up the level of competition whatsoever? Or is top rank going to order 6 more 2 round can crushings? #janibekgualtieri

Time for him to fight some better competition

Torrez would welcome the next step.
“This is a process,” Torrez said. “Top Rank has the best matchmakers, and I fight whoever they put in front of me. If they say I’m ready to fight eight-rounders next, I’ll be ready.”
Torrez was too much for Herndon (21-5, 14 KOs) as he delivered punches after punches in the second round.
Herndon turned his back and referee Alejandro Leon waved off the fight.
