Richardson's two goals guide CIU boys past Van Meter

May 1—VAN METER — Another strong second half helped the Central Iowa United boys' soccer team to a road win over Van Meter on Tuesday.

Ben Richardson scored twice, Andrew Tollefsen delivered three assists and Gage Byal chipped in one goal and one assist as CIU defeated Van Meter 3-2 during non-conference action.

The match was tied at 1-all at halftime but a 2-1 advantage in the second half pushed the visitors to the victory.

Aiden Downs added an assist and Lucas Barnes registered 11 saves for CIU, which had nine shots in the win.

Richardson now has a team-best 11 goals and 24 points this spring.

It was the second straight loss for Van Meter, which fell to 3-6. The victory snapped a two-game skid by Central Iowa United (4-7).

GIRLS

Hudson 5, Central Iowa United 0

HUDSON — Hudson broke open a close match at halftime with four goals in the final 40 minutes during its 5-0 home win over the Central Iowa United girls on Thursday.

Savannah Schneider led Hudson with four goals and one assist as the Pirates are now 9-1.

CIU loses twice at Boone tournament

BOONE — Central Iowa United lost 4-0 twice in the Boone tournament on Saturday.

Boone scored four times in the first half and shut out CIU at Goeppinger Field. Hannah Chesnut scored two goals and had one assist and Sophia Boros tallied one goal and one assist for Boone (4-4).

CIU (1-10) took six shots and put three on goal. Annabelle Heller made nine saves.

Three second-half goals helped West Central Valley (7-4) pull away from Central Iowa United in the other match.

Heller made 15 saves, but CIU was limited to two shots and one shot on goal.
